Either you didn't read what I wrote, or we have been exposed to very different engineering environments. ASIC designers cannot get enough compute power, they will use all of it and want more.
Indeed, I've never been exposed to ASIC designers. Everything I've had exposure too has been mechanical.

I work in a building with 300 people in it. You tell me that 100W per workstation is nothing. When the AC failed for the building, everyone ran for the hills.

You tell that to people setting up servers that already have hefty cooling requirements. A lab in an old building I was would rise 10 degrees (I assume F, but he might have meant C) for every 10 minutes the AC was off. Which happened a little too often because people would microwave things that set off the fire alarm, shutting down ALL air to the building and leaving it off until the fire department cleared the building. Servers started to shut down due to temps.

hahaha you know in most office building , they shut their A|C off when the building management go's home right. [-10c or +40c] LIFE AFTER 9 to 5
-to show their lower 7\24 avg. watt \per lease income.
I have replace more than the avg. stand alone servers failures [in tenets space] on a 3 day long weekend's [most seem can live for 2 days ,but not 3] after these eco nuts have gain access to their building management jobs.
-but yet there are 1" air gaps around the the main doors @ -10c temps and they still turn off the a\c nights weekends.[heat is cheap -AC is not]

My building keeps some level of AC going all day, though it is reduced past 6PM. The lights usually start to turn off at 9PM...
