Hi everyone,
Sorry for such a noob question. I have just finished putting together my first build:
Intel i5 3570K on an ASRock z77 extreme4 with 2x8 G.Skill Ares 1866 DDR3 and a Sapphire HD7850 2G. I’ve installed my OS on a Samsung 840 250GB SSD and got a WD Blue 1TB HDD for storage. I plugged my SSD and HDD both into the SATA3 ports on the mb and finished installing all the windows updates and drivers. I ran into 2 problems during my installation of the drivers from the ASRock website: the first was that when I tried to install the “Intel Rapid Start driver”, I get an error message that says that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements. And the second is the common problem that many folks seem to have and that is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology program “stops running”. I’ve done everything that everyone else has done but I still have that problem. Could anyone please help? Thank you so much!

Which RST software version have you installed and for which purposes do you want to use it?
This is what I recommend to do: Uninstall the RST software via Control Center, reboot and then reinstall a more actual Intel RST software version.
Alternatively you may use just the RST driver(s). The RST software is not really needed for AHCI systems.

Also, check your BIOS. On my Asus board there is an option for RST that must be enabled. If it isn't, that might explain the "minimum requirements" error.

I have the latest RST version 11.7.0.1013. I did uninstall the IAStorUI program and reinstalled the driver from Intel's website. I even tried the expansion version with no luck. I'm starting to think if this program is even worth the trouble.

Alternatively you may use just the RST driver(s). The RST software is not really needed for AHCI systems.

I thought about that too.......Do I really need Rapid Start Technology or Rapid Storage Technology? Is that an essential program/feature to have if I have an SSD?

And isn't the extreme4 defaults to AHCI system and not IDE?

Hey,
please be aware of this:
The difference between Intel Rapid STORAGE and START.
Intel Rapid Start is for Ultrabooks that have a HDD and an additional mSATA SSD for faster boot.
You only need the Intel Rapid Storage Driver.
