Intel Rapid Storage Technology and SSDs

Should I use IRST? I dont really even know what it does if you only have 1 drive, but i've heard some people say its beneficial to have with SSDs specifically. Can i just not use it? Trying to keep bloat down...

Early on RST was a bit too agressive with power savings on laptops that it affected SSD benchmarks. Performance still felt about the same in real life. As of the past year and a half or so Intel has fixed it and it now does seem to help with power savings. However in a desktop with a single drive I wouldn't bother. Of course if you already installed it, I wouldn't bother uninstalling it either, just update it.

You could just try using the generic drivers installed by Windows and see if performace is close to stated specs of your SSD and take it from there.

Keeping the bloat down? If your SSD is smaller and your worried about the space then just shrink the pagefile if you have 8gb or more memory I set mine to 1024-2048mb and it never goes over 1024mb. Another thing is by default Windows will enable hibernation on a desktop < killing it will get you GB's of space back depending on the amount of ram you have installed.
