Are there any articles comparing these two?

I guess I'm looking at faster and more energy efficient... for a 24/7 daily user machine.

Looks close, with a bit of an edge for the AMD CPU. The Q9650 is slightly faster in several benchmarks, the 1090T is much faster in a few (which I guess are the programs that can use more than 4 cores) and slightly faster in others. Depends on your specific needs.

As far as energy efficiency, the Q9650 is a 95W part while the 1090T is 125W, so intel generally wins there.

The 1090T is definitely the faster chip according to that (1090T won 22, lost 8, with 4 of those being SYSMark, and 1 tie), and for anything that could use the extra cores it was significantly faster.

Looking at the power consumption bench (idle @Win7/5870 and load @x264 3.03) and comparing it to

the 1090T should idle lower than the Q9650 but use a little more power at load.

Looks like they are relatively equal for my usage.

On another note, I thought my Game rig booted faster because of the SSD drive in it but when it died and I put my 1Tb WD Black drive in it and compared the rig to my 24/7 rig with a Raptor it still beat it in boot up time by a significant amount. That's rig 1 vs rig 3 in sig and rig 3 is back at stock for now.

the 1TB WD Black is a very fast drive, i have two and love them.

On topic:
I would wait for the new cpu generation. The jump to the T1090 would not be that significant.

Take a Q9650 and overclock the hell out of it, then it is a different story. Depending on board and chipset, 4.0Ghz is not out of reach. I get 3.7Ghz on my Q9550 without too much effort.

I've Q8200 and DDR2 OCZ Reaper 4GB 1066Mhz...and my motherboard was broken...

I want change my CPU to Q9650 and I'll buy new socket 775 motherboard or
AMD X6 1075T with AM2+ socket & AM3 Compatible...
I want keep my RAM because OCZ Reaper so expensive...
What's the best for me? Q9650 or X6 1075T ?
If can, I want overclock Q9650 up to 4.5GHz or X6 1075T up to 4.2 GHz...

Nick, youre shooting really high on the Q9650 overclock. 4.5ghz is nearly impossible for that CPU without extreme liquid or LN2.

That's one way to look at it, the other way to look at it is the 1090T won 22, lost 8 with 9 of the wins either 3dsmax or Cinebench.

1090 wins this match in terms of pure speed but the Q9650 is a more efficient chip while not that behind in performance.
