I upgraded from a E6600 to a Q9450 Cpu recently and was suprised to notice that the fan was louder. It sounded like as if it had crappier ball bearing than my older E6600 Cpu cooler. (thats if cpu coolers even have ball bearings)

Ok... so, whats a good 3rd party cooler that meets the following...

1) Is quieter than a stock Q9450 box cooler.
2) At least matches the cooling performance of the stock cooler.
3) Is not much heavier than stock Q9450 box cooler.
4) Bracketless designs preferred but not necessary
5) No LEDs of any kind please!

Now, I'm not overclocking or anything. I just need a straightfoward swap. So no crazy 4 fans 20kg quad heat pipe coolers the size of a small city please.

Cheers.

vendetta ought to work, vendetta2 is a bit quieter but a bit bigger... i'm very happy with my vendetta2...

if u want quiet any of the major brand 120mm coolers on low ought to be fine... quiet and small tend to not go together so often...

have tried adjusting the fan speed in bios? how hot is the chip getting under load?

No I havent tried to adjust the speed in the bios nor have I check the temp under load.

Its just that its louder than I'd prefer it to be during idle. i.e. sitting in windows doing nothing.

Whats a decent free program to check CPU temp under load? I'm guessing if its running below a certain temp, I could slow the fan down? If so, what temperature?

Honestly, i'll be happy if I can get a cooler thats as quite as my old E6600 box cooler. Would they be interchangable?

Yeah I know, lotsa questions, sorry.

kingwin is much better.

The AF is old and wont do well on 45nm expecially with overclocking.

Go with the newer tech.

its more commonly known as xigmatek.

And it will spank that AF7 upside down silly.

Crap, youre right! The only thing against it is that its slightly heavier.

Is this the Xigmatek equal?

Also considering this though...

The only thing making me unsure is that I'm not a fan of Intels screwless 775 Heatsink design and I take my PC to lan maybe once a month, thus the concern about weight. I'm probably just paranoid since I'm used to screw designs in the past.

I know I said I prefered a bracketless design in my OP but now I'm thinking getting a bracketed HSF would give me piece of mind and probably be more secure. Now for the anoying question....

What would you recommend for a bracketed HSF that isnt much heavier than 550g-600g?

Sorry for the flipflop. However if you think the standard bracketless 775 design is fine and I'm just being overcautious, please feel free to say so. I'm not a HSF expect. (as you can probably tell from my bumbling around)
