I'm using an Intel 865PERLK motherboard with Windows XP Pro. This motherboard has an onboard gigabit LAN adaptor. Do I really need Intel's ProSet control applet or is it better just to use the drivers alone? Are all of the ProSet functions duplicated by WinXP Pro anyway? TIA

For an ethernet controller there's not a lot of options to configure. However, my experience with Intel hard (2200BG mainly) is that the drivers add functions which you can modify with the Device Manager.

That being said, I would just take the drivers.
