Intel processor, How to tell if OEM or Retail and warranty question.

Can you tell by the numbers on the chip if it is OEM or Retail? I realize the retail has a 3 year warranty but is a receipt needed to prove you are original owner or what?

Yes you can,there will be a 5 letter and numeral combination to determine if you have a OEM or Retail boxed version and you can find out on this page about Pentium® III Processor Sspec Information and you do not need a receipt to have a Retail CPU replaced by Intel, just contact them.
