Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG windows wireless issue

I have a Dell E1705 with the Intel 3945ABG wireless card. I have installed the software including the driver which allowed me to get online using wireless. Intel's software was a resource hog so I got rid of it but I kept the driver. Now no matter what I do I can not get Windows to see any wireless networks. When I reinstalled the driver a box came up saying that it detected wireless networks though when I clicked on it nothing came up. The windows wireless zero configuration service is on, and the wireless light is on. Anything suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.

I have this card in my vostro 1400, I didn't uninstall the intel software, but I did tell it to let windows manage it. I didn't do it because it was a resource hog, I just did it for the heck of it. How bad of a hog is it?

I have the one of the many Intel ABG cards in my Asus notebook - the wireless hotkey only works with the Intel software.

Have you tried putting the software back on? I don't think it's that much of a resource hog, looking at my own machine.
