Intel PRO 2915 wireless vs Microsoft Client

Hiya~

I've recently purchased my first laptop. I paid extra for an Intel PRO 2915 wireless card. When I click on the wireless icon in the tray there is an option to: Use IntelPROSet/Wireless. When I choose this I lose my internet connection, when I go back to the menu it says: Use Microsoft client, if I choose this my connection returns. Is something not configured properly here? I feel like I paid for the upgrade but am using the standard.
