I was told you do not need to use a crossover to directly connect two computers together using gigaethernet. Is this true? I tried and couldn't get it working something im missing? We are both using intel 865perlk boards with integrated intel pro 10/100/1000 nics.
 
Cyberkiller6, most gigE equipment is auto-crossover. All of the Intel gigE PHYs I've seen have been, so I really don't know why your setup isn't working. Try a real crossover cable, and make sure ALL the pairs are crossed (not just orange and green flipped, but also blue and brown).
