HI All

I need a computer for my office. I know it aint popular around these parts, but Im gonna
buy a Intel 865PERLL. I need a motheboard with high compatibility and reliability. Do you guys thinks when the Prescott is released on the 2nd of Feb that Intel will also annouce price cuts on their boards? They said in article ive read new motheroboards wont be out till the middle of year, so why would they lower the price of the 865? I noticed Newegg is selling the board for 105 which is the lowest ive ever seen it. Should I buy now or wait for Prescott? Im more interested in the price drop of the 2.8 800fsb though.

thanks

Prices of 865/875 chipset mb's may very likely go down once the 655tx chipset mb's are released. These are due out any day now.

As for being able to run Prescott procs, Intel released new specs that will support this new proc (example the D875PBZLK FMB 1.5). You may want to wait to ensure that they definately work with what you want to get.

Either way by waiting at least couple of weeks you will have a lot more info and will likely spend less on whatever you end up getting. Wait a bit more and it will be whole new ballgame.

See the article titled Intel 2004 CPU/Chipset Roadmap Update on the home page of this site
"If you're going to buy a Pentium 4 soon we would recommend waiting until next quarter, you'll have a new socket and new chipsets to go along with it."

yeah 865 should be plenty for a office computer
most major motherboard manufacturers offer good solutions
newegg.com has a good slection
just don't overpay

yeah i plan to start looking at the 2.8 presscot next month
looks like a nice cpu, but if it's over 200 bucks i might get scared
