Intel Pentium-M CPU speeds?

Howdy,

I was curious to see if anyone knew what the fastest intel Pentium-M cpus were for notebook computers? I thought that 1.7GHz was currently the fastest, but after I found this document:

Mobile Pentium 4 M CPU pdf

I was a bit confused. The document shows the cpus going up into the 2+GHz range. Are these the same cpus used in most of the Intel Centrino based notebooks?

thanks 🙂

Their is Pentium - M and Pentium 4 M, the former is the CPU used in centrino laptop the latter is the P4 northwood based cpu

thanks for clearing that up 🙂

Any idea of what the fastest Pentium - M is or will be? I think that 1.7GHz is the fastest right now, but are there any plans from Intel that a 1.7+ GHz Pentium - M will be coming out?

The next pentium M is likely to be either a 1.8ghz based on the current cpu (banias) or will be based on the die shrunk updated version (0.09 dothan with 2mb lvl 2 cache)

Cool!

If the die is shrunk, will that perhaps lead intel to use a different form factor? Right now it is a Flip Chip BGA (methinks), but if they shrink the die size would they use a new type of socket then?

thanks for the good info Mingon 🙂
