I have an E2180 OCed to 2.5ghz. Is this an upgrade? I haven't really been following processors and I only really buy them when they are sub 100.

if your mobo supports it, the same fsb oc will make the 5200 a nice upgrade...

but the price is up to $80...

it's still the king of the bargain chips right now...

The default clock is 2.5ghz. I've seen it as high as 3.8ghz. Most people get 3.0ghz really easily with a big fan like a Tuniq 120 and some AS5.

And don't forget, 2X the L2 Cache. Definitely an upgrade. I have mine running at 3.33Ghz at stock voltage with no issues on stock cooling.

Would it be worth it for me to upgrade from my CPU in sig? It's already running at 3.0GHz which is plenty fast enough for all games and most apps, but my dad wants a new cheap PC so I was thinking of building one for him around my old CPU and getting a new one for myself... If it's not worth it, I'd rather save my money though. Dad is not in a hurry. ;)

I currently have an E6750 oc'd to 3.0GHz, this CPU seems comperable as per the benchmarks shown on PassMark:
OC Benchmarks

I am not sure if I should just wait and get something better...

Anyone seen any better deals that an Abit IP35-E would support well? Wonder if it would support an i7 :D

At least a E7X00 cpu. An E7200 should be able to do at least 3.4GHz which would just begin to be noticeable in real world use (not talking about benchmarks)

I have an E2200 at 2.93ghz by BSEL. With this, I'd hit 3.3Ghz by bsel...I wonder...I can't pick up a 7 series and oc on my current mobo.

I think I'll just wait till Q6600s get a price slash, which I think they will real soon judging by the Phenom release.
