Quick question for you guys...
If I buy a Pentium 4 with 400 MHz FSB and 512K cache, will I need to buy a new motherboard when I want to upgrade to a Pentium 4 with 533 MHz FSB.

Thanks,

Perhaps. Currently if you buy a Northwood P4 (1.6A and 1.8A) most can be o/c to 133FSB on the I845D and Sis645 chipsets. So on this basis I would say that NO you do not have to.
However Intel I845D supports officially 100 (quad = 400). Most can be run at 133 so I think you should be fine.
SiS 645 and soon to be released 645DX do support 133 (=533) so you are also OK and especially if you wait for the DX chipset due any day now.
VIA P4X266/P4X33 - not many choices available as of now so better leave this out of the equation.

Could a new bios flash of the 400MHz fsb mobo make it accept the new 533Mhz processors?

I agree the sis645dx will be out very soon...however if you wish to save a few bucks and get a board sub 100 then get the asus p4s333 and flah the bios to the p4s533...many have done it and not one ill effect reported...sis645 already had basic support for northwood, but this also gives you many more memory ratios where you can run 400mhz ddr at 133fsb...

hey,all are right, but when the new Processors come out for the 533FSB there will be a change on a couple pins(though not in position,or that's what there saying now) having something to do with future speeds(obviously, but intel sets nothing in stone as we all know).but with all in present just oc .on some mobo's as far as 600FSB.
