Intel PCIe SSD poor performance

Well this was unexpected.

I upgraded from a Core i7 4770 to i7 8700. The boot disk went from a SATA SSD, a WD Blue, to an Intel 750 PCIe SSD. So the hard disk should be faster, right?

Wrong. Wise 365 reports a boot time of 42 seconds. The WD Blue would boot in 28 seconds. I removed a few apps that were said to be slowing down the start up, but no change.

I suspect I need to make UEFI tweaks, but man, that's one place I don't dare go without getting a little help. So I'd appreciate some advice on boosting performance, whether it's a Windows tweak, which I've tried, to a UEFI adjustment.

TIA.

Wait, Boot Times, with an Intel 750? That's a "known issue", you should be able to Google it. They released some firmware updates to help with the issue, but AFAIK, all of those drives have it. They make a nice data(base) drive, but they're not the greatest boot drive.

Some reason that you didn't get an Intel Optane-based M.2 PCI-E drive? They just released the (slightly) larger stand-alone (non-cache) drives a few days ago.

PCIe SSDs are known to be a little slower on cold boots and during startup. After that, you get the benefits. I notice my lower end box with a SATA SSD does boot just a tiny bit faster than my balls-to-the-wall gaming rig with a PCIe NVMe SSD. But once I'm running, it's no contest.
