A good buddy of mine mentioned the nvidia 680i chipset today to me saying that he's had better luck overclocking with that set than the p965 intel chipset..

What do you guys say? Go p965 or go 680i???

Well after having both the additional options like running unlinked and the miriad of extra bios options make me really like my 680i that I just installed. The early problems of the 680i have all been fixed, well most that I can see anyways. Early adopters usually have lots of issues that show up alot on enthusiast forums so take all the complaints with a grain of salt. Now the 965 boards run cooler in general so you will really need to keep air moving over NB and SB and some HSF coolers block alot of flow to mosfets so you really want to be careful what you use on a 680i. If you want cheap and fast, get a 965 like the DS3 revision board. If you want to tinker for days and weeks and get an extra bit out of it and have SLI upgrade in the future go 680i.

Now with the R600s coming out you may want to wait to see how they go since they MAY be cheaper and xfire may be the way to go in the near future so dependant on what your gfx card choice is or if you already have a direction you want to go choose wisely now, I would have to regret my choices a week later and have to pay a restocking fee.

I have both Evga 680i and GB 965P DS3 V3.3. Both work alright in the end but I prefer the 680. Easier setup and fewer problems for me. Price difference not as great as it seems as the Evga came with every know accessory and cable. DS3 requires some additional cooling on the NB if you intend to O/C probably even if you don't as you could cook on that thing. Especially using VISTA the Evga suits me better. The Gigabyte accessory software really doesn't work right. Also Evga customer service and website is much better IMHO. N'tune is nice with NV monitor and works with Vista.

Note that would be the 650i ultra...no SLI here if that's what you're looking for.

Anantech recently did a (very favorable) article on the Asus P5N32-E Plus, which is 2x16 SLI but uses a "hybrid" 650i chipset. That's what I've been looking at...

I have that board, and I've been very pleased with it.

I have an msi P6N SLI Platinum with the 650i chipset and vista supported it right off the bat without me having to jump through all of the driver hoops. After I got the updates installed I did add the nvidia nforce and graphics drivers.
