Quick question-
I'm considering buying a used retail p4. The guy says he doesn't have the box, but has the paperwork (ie warranty info). I was under the impression that to get a warranty claim, you need to have the whole package (box, plastic tray, etc.). Is this true?

No, but you do need the retail heatsink & fan.

You need to be the original owner too. Intel 3-year warranty

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, AND ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES THAT MAY EXIST UNDER STATE LAW, APPLY ONLY TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE BOXED PROCESSOR, OR BOXED PROCESSOR-BASED COMPUTER AND LAST ONLY FOR AS LONG AS SUCH PURCHASER CONTINUES TO OWN THE PROCESSORS.

Course they have no idea who the original owner is. All you need is the retail heatsink and the serial # on top of it.
