Interesting...I had my P4 at 2.4GHz and it was quite stable in windows but when I went to run a Sandra CPU bench, it gave a Windows XP error. So I dropped it back down to 2.25GHz.

Well, once I got back into Windows at 2.25GHz/125MHz bus and installed PCMark2002 and was looking around (this is the first time I've ever used the program) at the System Info page. It showed my P4 internal clock correctly at 2.25GHz. But it also had a listing that said MAX internal clock of 2.34GHz.

So I dropped back into the BIOS and set the CPU to it's default 1.8GHz and booted back into windows. Again, it correctly listed the current internal clock speed but gave a max internal clock of 2.36GHz.

Does Intel somehow imprint this data into the chip, or is PCMark just reading something out of BIOS and making it's own conclusions?

PCMark takes account of the Vcore and multiplier/FSB of the processor being tested and, compares that against it's own list of supported processors and hypothesis based upon that data what the maximum core clockspeed of any similar processor released would be.

ie. In your case it's estimating that the 100Mhz FSB/1.5V Northwood will scale to a clockspeed of 2.34GHz.

SiSoft Sandra and other software do similar things, it has absolutely no bearing on the potential overclockability nor doesit have any bearing on whether Intel may have judged the processor to be capable of clockspeeds in excess of it's rated 1.8GHz.

You'll likely find that in a future update to PCMark2002 the listing will change to a maximum internal clockspeed of 2.4GHz as it will have been updated to Intel's latest processor releases or beyond should Intel release any further 100MHz FSB/1.5V Northwood's.

Yeah, what Rand said...........:D

Mine says the same thing as your 2.34 but is running 2.56 (even says thats the speed it running at too), its just a deficiency in that program.

Are you guys using the complete version or the trial version.
I saw the trial version and was wondering if that program is trustworthy and of any use, and I read a review somewhere stating that it's results were questionable anyway.

Yeah, I'm wondering as well. I ran the test once and got CPU/Mem/HDD scores of 4848/4980/705. I ran it again and got 5456/5345/654.

Now that is just screwed up. I didn't even change anything between the two tests. And my 800JB should be scoring higher than that anyway.

Thanks for the reply, NFS4.

I've just been playing a litte bit with it and I think the program is crap so far, even for a trial version.
I ran it on different computers, and I sometimes got better results on some old crappy box that had to compete with a new and really fast system, especially in the harddisk-test. And then there are differences in the results from one run to the next on the same system that are ridiculous, so it's the same here as with your PC.

No need to look for further downloads of a complete version ;).

The guys over at MADONION should stick to graphics benchmarks, those look nice at least and provide numbers that can be compared and have some meaning.

Internal Clock: 1.39 GHz
Internal Clock Maximum: 1.39 GHz

Interesting...because I'm currently at 1.425GHz...it didn't even get the actual speed right. :p

I don't know how it works. But my 1.6a@2.0 ( I like even number, beside it is safe since Abit BD7 has fix 33mhz PCI speed) ;)

Manufacturer: Intel
Family: Pentium® 4
Internal Clock: 1.96 GHz
Internal Clock Maximum: 3.91 GHz
External Clock: 125 MHz
Socket Designation: Socket 478
Type: <unknown>
Upgrade: ZIF Socket
Capabilities: MMX, CMov, RDTSC, SSE, SSE2
Version: Intel Pentium(R) 4
CPUID: 0x00000f24

Does this mean I can OC this baby to 3.91Ghz? I really don't think so...............

Edit:
I have it on 125FSB, I should have 2.0Ghz, but PCMark2002 show 1.96Ghz???????
WinXP and Sisoft Sandra detecting it as 2.01Ghz
And 3Dmark2001 SE show the following.
Manufacturer: Intel
Family: Pentium® 4
Internal Clock: 2.01 GHz
Internal Clock Maximum: 4 GHz
External Clock: 125 MHz
Socket Designation: Socket 478
Type: <unknown>
Upgrade: ZIF Socket
Capabilities: MMX, CMov, RDTSC, SSE, SSE2
Version: Intel Pentium(R) 4
CPUID: 0x00000f24

This is stange.?????????? Does anyone got those crazy "maximum" number?
