Intel P4 or AMD Athlon xp

I've really slacked on keeping up on my computer knowledge, so till i catch up on it could you help me? If i decide to upgrade and get a new cpu, which should i get? I currently have an athlon xp 1900+. I've had no major problems with it but i wonder if the P4 is just a better processor...stability/performance wise. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

Stick with what you have, the P4 would require buying a new board as well and it doesn't sound like you're needing more performance because your taxing the 1900+ to it's limits and then some, so anything more would be overkill if my supposition is correct. What board is it in anyways? OH! and welcome to the forums 😀

I agree...stick with what you have as you are not too far off the top....If you look at upgrading cpu wise....often amd mobos can handle someof the new tbred and barton lines...

Also AMD pretty much owns the lower 2400+ and below market for price /performance...so if you want 2.6 or greater then I would look at intel...

i used to be a member here a long time ago, but some how my account got locked up...like i was banned for some reason. It was very annoying. See i'd salvage the parts in my PC that i like, and put it with new ones. The stuff i didnt use will go toward putting together a second pc, maybe for my bro. that intel price tag certainly isn't too friendly...
