Hello guys

Title says it all.

I just got a P4 2.8C (Northwood) chip. Currently, i have it overclocked to 3.50GHz using stock intel heatsink and fan at stock voltage.

I am wondering, whats the safe voltages for Intel and what are the safe max temps ?
Currently, i get ~62-64 full load running P95...is it too hot ?

Sorry, i am out of touch with Intel setups lately.

btw, here is the rest of the setup:
MSI Neo2-PLS mobo - I865PE chipset
2x 512mb Corsair Value Select PC3200 Ram - currently running at DDR400 (i know, looking for some good ram)

Can anyone also recommend some good ram for this setup. Would like to stay in the range ~$150-175 for 1GB ram. I might pull off 200 but nothing over 200. Just wondering, if it is even worth the extra $$$ for better ram ?

EDIT: fixed spelling errors.

mine'll boot into windows to 3.75 GHz. but it isn't stable till 3.47GHz. I am using a 1.65vcore and memory is at 2.65v.

just got a zalman7000. max temps dropped from 65 C to 58 C. get a zalman for sure

I would say it's really not worth it. Corsair VS is actually some pretty decent stuff. I believe stock timings are 2.5-3-3-6? Unless you want to shell out $250 or so for a gig of the new Samsung TCCD stuff...I really don't think it's worth it. And even then...the increases will be very minimal.

can you recommend some good quality ram that can probably run at 250-260Mhz (DDR500+ levels) at CL2.5 ??

My setup is stable at 3.50Ghz at stock voltage....tested it 2 times overnight running P95. No crashes yet.

I just moved it upto 260FSB (3.6x Ghz) at stock voltage. still using stock heatsink & fan. Running P95 flawlessly so far...but the temps are ~68 - 70C. I am getting kinda worried at those high temps. Seems like the CPU has lots left in it (possibility of hitting 4Ghz) but i need recommendations of good quality RAM and a cheap good quality Heatsink & Fan also (if they will make some difference).

thanks

PS: Btw, the CPU is 2.8C (Northwood) - D1 stepping - 30 cap version - Dell 400SC Pull.
The heatsink is the one that i have left from a 3.0E chips (has a round copper insert at bottom).

Corsair VS is 2.5-3-3-8. I am currently using the Ram divisor.

At 250FSB, i ran it at 200Mhz @ 2.5-3-3-8
Currently, at 260FSB, it is running at 173Mhz @ 2.5-3-3-8

i had gotten this ram to 220FSB on A64 setup but i doesnt boots on this intel setup (prolly b/c A64 was single channel and intel setup is dual channel). I guess i will just stick with my VS then.

any recommendations on a Cheap heatsink and fan to lower my temps ?

EDIT: I dont want to spend ~$40 - 50 on a heatsink though.....looking for a cheap one in the range of ~$20...if none, i will just clock down to 3.4 -3.5Ghz levels.....i dont think that extra $50 is worth that little added boost.

btw, what are the safe temps for P4 ?

Those temps are way too high. For a Northwood I would say you don't want to exceed 50C degrees under full load. For around 30 USD you can get a Zalman 7000 ACu which is a pretty good HSF. The best would be a xp-90 with a good 92mm fan. Just the stock cooler is garbage. You should also look at getting some Artic Silver 5.

For memory I would say OCZ PC-4000 Gold will get you to 250+ at CAS 2.5
