Intel P4 2.6ghz showing as a 1.3ghz

I have a Intel Pentium 4 2.6ghz that shows up in Windows Systme Information as a 1.26ghz

Is it really running at a lower speed, it shows both speeds?

Any ideas?

Check your motherboard manual. You probably have it set to the wrong FSB speed.

It is a Dell GX270; The CPU settings in the BIOS appear to be correct. I have toggled with different settings and it still says 1.29ghz.

It says this speed in Windows and in the BIOS.

sure sounds like fsb 100 vs. 200... change a stick of memory lately?

In my BIOS it displays info on the precessor as:

Bus Speed 400mhz
Processor 0 ID: F29
Clock Speed: 1.30ghz
Cache Size 512kb

I can not seem to change the bus spped. IS this the issue?

YES...you need a bus speed of 800mhz (200QDR) for that CPU.

What chipset it your mobo?

If it's an i845 series you can only reach 800mhz through overclocking...most boards won't reach that however.

you need to have an i848, i865 or i875 (seeing as dell only uses intel chipsets with P4's) to have 800mhz FSB support.

I bought the Dell GX260 computer used. According to Dell's Info The mobo supports 400 or 533mhz bus.

It is a Intel 845G.


The seller state a 2.6ghz, but it appears this computer does not support the chip.

yep, sounds like the 2.6 is a Northwood C CPU...you need to get hold of a 2.66 (533) Northwood.

But really if you can get one cheap enought a Northwood 3.06ghz (533) CPU they support Hyperthreading and are pretty good as far as skt478 P4's go.
