Intel P4 2.6C

I want to overclock A LITTLE, just to test out my system....

I don't have any special cooling in my system...just the retail heat sink and fan...

Any suggestions??

I'm using the P4C800 Deluxe mobo...which offers "AI Overclocking" but I have no experience with it.

THANKS!

you can take P4C's surprisingly far on stock cooling. your 2.6C would probably hit 3.25GHz w/ the stock cooler. temps under load might be a little warm, but more than likely not too high. but i couldn't tell you about AI OCing, as i havent tinkered with the P4C800 deluxe enough. you only want to OC a little, and that can be done no problem w/ the stock hsf.

Give us some more info, please...

List make and model of power supply...

List what type and brand of memory you will be using and how many sticks....

Stock cooling can be good as far as 3.2ghz but I wouldn't sustain it at those levels...Anything over 3.2ghz needs better cooling and anything over 3.0ghz that needs more vcore as well....

Answer the questions above so we can see what we have to work with...

Ditto on Duvie's post of needing more information on
your setup to give you more educated suggestions.

I can comment on the fact that I have two 2.6C rigs with one
being on a P4C800-Dlx platform. It has been running at 3.4Ghz
since its birth using 1.6vcore but I am running a SLK900U heatsink
with a panflo 92mm 57cfm fan on it. I am using HyperX PC3500 set to
2-2-2-5 with 2.85vdimm and performance modes are enabled.

The other rig using a 2.6C is using stock heatsink/fan combo at 3.2Ghz
with 1.55vcore and has been there as well from day one.

I would recommend that you use manual for all settings and not the AI
Overclock feature as you will have more control over all your settings.

jhites, that first rig sounds nice. would you be using a 5:4 divider on the memory?
Yes, I am using the 5:4 divider with 262fsb puts the ram at DDR420 which is actually under Spec in one regard for the HyperX PC3700. However, the timings specs for this ram is 2-3-3-7, so I am running much tighter timings with 2-2-2-5. This is the older HyperX from back in April/May with the Winbond BH5 chips.

The specs are on my sig.
I would go with the 5:4 divider and set the timings to factory specs using manual ram settings. Then using manual for cpu vcore and fsb start increasing to find your limit for the cpu. I would recommend not increasing the vcore above the 1.5875v max, since you are using stock cooling. Be sure to set the AGP/PCI lock to 66/33 so you will not have any issues in other areas. I would also set the vagp to 1.6v minimum with the ATI card. I personally use 1.7v on my ATI AIW 9700 Pro and found this helped with overall stability of my system.

Hey, JHITES, those are some mean overclocks (261 fsb & 246 fsb, if I have them right) for 2.6c-s with pc3500 memory. Are you running 5/4 dividers on them? I'd love to dream of o'clocking some OCZ 3500 Platinum LE to 250fsb at 1:1. Or should I keep dreaming?

Look above for 5:4. I did own a P4P800-E with a 2.8C and some TwinMos PC3700 for a while. Had it running at DDR492 using the 1:1 but it still did not outperform my P4C800 rig. I could not run the TwinMos with any of the Performance Modes enabled like I do with the P4C800 rig.
