I searched the forums on Intel, GRIsoft and AVG and did not see anyone post this. However, I'm guessing that it may be common knowledge? I didn't actually know this and just ran across it. Apparently, Intel and an investment partner own a majority stake of the company since sometime in 2005. No big deal. Just thought it was interesting.

If it's a repost, I apologize in advance.

I didn't know, hopefully they don't take away the free AVG version.

I think they already took it away... They no longer update it anymore right?

Yes intel owns a controlling share of Grisoft. But the "avg free" version still updates and works fine and will continue to do so.

They just make you wade through the website for 20 minutes looking for it.

It still updates more or less daily and works great like it always has. I doubt that will change. If anything, Intel's investment of capital in order to acquire the technology (as opposed to the business model) will give Grisoft the resources to continue the development of the free product.

No it still works. If you have AVG Free 6, they stopped updating it. But 7 is available and should update fine.

Although IIRC they changed their website so it wasn't quite so easy to find the free edition anymore...but free.grisoft.com should get you what you want.

Its great that intel gives away free stuff at least software.
