I currently own an Intel NUC with the i3-6100u. I'm currently using the NUC as a HTPC (Kodi) which it does fine for that as long as I use Windows on it, but was considering buying the Nvidia Shield TV (2017) and repurposing the NUC for work/internet usage . Another option was keep using my NUC as a HTPC and buy a laptop for work/internet and connect it to my monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I'm currently do work/internet on my gaming PC but would like to just use it for gaming. I tried using my NUC as a work/internet PC connected to my monitor and on my desk and it was fine for that but I rather have a work/internet PC separate from my HTPC and gaming PC. Buying a Nvidia Shield and using it as a HTPC (mainly Kodi) and repurposing the NUC for work/internet is the cheaper option plus I get 4k hardware support. I don't really need portability. Here is the laptop I might get if I get a laptop if I go with the laptop option: http://www.microcenter.com/product/...133_2-in-1_Laptop_Computer_-_Theoretical_Gray

So should I go with option 1, buy a Nvidia Shield and repurpose the NUC, or option 2, buy a laptop and continue using the NUC as a HTPC?

I think it comes down to money/flexibility. If you will never use a laptop as a laptop; then I would not buy a laptop as they have a lot of negatives. The nuc aren't cheap at retail price (though you already own it); but the msi cubi on sale are really good buys. I personally use a nuc when I visit relatives and would not use a laptop since i prefer a larger screen and real keyboard but that is just me. I think the only open point is if you want a shield. can't comment there.

As for the specific item linked that is more of a tablet than a laptop :) Bit heavy for a tablet at 3.5 lb but tablets can be fun on planes.
