hi all,

tried googling this, but couldn't find a definitive answer.

i have the intel nuc d54250wyk updated to bios 25. i have an msata crucial m550 256 gb plugged into the msata slot. the uefi will not recognize this under the "uefi boot" tab. it does see the crucial drive under the "legacy boot" tab as a sata port 3 device.

does anyone know why, or how, these msata ssds can be recognized as uefi boot?

thanks!

Have you installed the OS to the drive? In my experience, the drives will show up as legacy devices unless you have installed the OS to them in UEFI mode. To do this, boot from the install media in UEFI mode and install the OS to the drive (it will show up in Windows setup even though it doesn't show up in BIOS). Once the OS has been installed, it should show up as a UEFI device and boot in UEFI mode.

Yes, that seems to work.

I only select "uefi bios" while unchecking "legacy bios" option in the uefi, power off.
Plugin my usb stick of win8.1, power up. Allow it to start booting from the usb stick and windows start to install.

then yes, the msata gets detected. weird!

finished installing win8.1 and check everything afterward and yes, it uefi and gpt. all is good.

thanks for the tip.
