I've got a D945GCLF (the non dual core unit).

after a few days of owning the thing, the fan started making a racket. I've lubed it and it's better, but it's still noisy.

I'm running it caseless (just sitting on a desk..) and i can't help but think - does the bloody thing really need a fan for the *chipset*? seems ridiculous.

Maybe I'll get a thermal probe and play with it some sometime... I'm almost sure it will be fine without it though. I've got it set up as a mini webserver for now :)

The 945P is a bit toasty if you don't have a fan on it. Just replace the entire chipset heatsink/fan. It's a standard intel chipset clip mounting. Or just have a 120mm blowing across the entire board.

Yeah, i think maybe I'll chop down an old socket A heatsink, or something. :)
