Haha, Intel is just cashing in on "enthusiasts." They RMA dead OC'ed chips all the time. Unless you have cyro burns on the heatspreader or your chip melted, I doubt they know you OC'ed your chip or upped the voltage. :)

exactly...why pay when they will rma a dead cpu anyways.

If you feed 1.7 volts and push for 7ghz and burn it up there is no way for them to know and will give you a new one :)

all you have to say is when the lady asks you if you ever overclocked your cpu is whats that?

besides with the amount of sandys sold and the crazzy people out there pushing these things they are taking a beating and lasting so far.

Intel figures most people cant cool a chip enough to run 1.5 volts in it and wont push them that hard in the first place.

I can see chips lasting well over 3 years at 1.4 volts with proper cooling

But, how would Intel or any other company actually know if your cpu died due to overclocking as opposed to a power surge?

Yeah, the only way they know that you blew it up yourself is if you were raised right and are, you know, HONEST.

The "exclusions to coverage" are virtually identical to the "extent of limited warranty" already in place for retail versions of these CPU's. The general website description that Intel is posing for this plan differs significantly from the actual terms and conditions. They are basically encouraging folks to crank it up but the fine print says they can deny the claim. It will be interesting to hear how well this works out for the folks who sacrifice their chip to the Overclock Gods then pray for an Intel mage to cast a resurrection spell.

I think that only clerics can cast resurrection btw... ;)

My official title is social media representative to the enthusiast space. Most of the time all I am doing is reading a number of forums looking for areas in which I can help with product information. Before this I was working in the pre-sales and channel member support group telling resellers around North America what goes with what.

Best. Job. Evars.

If you can find out who was behind this warranty and the thought process that went into it, maybe with a little Q/A thrown in, that would make for a VERY interesting article/thread and would likely help to promote awareness of this excellent program.

Jeez, the prices is very fair for OCing warranty. I could not rma a chip I killed, seems very wrong.

Now, I spend $20 and I cover my OCing. Kudos, to Intel for a very fair price and policy.

not only that its a 2 year warrenty.. this will imply that some will recognize the fact that 22 months have passed and its time to move up.. much easier to sell a new in box cpu than one thats been sitting at 4.6+ for just under 2 years

Thanks, most of the time this job is a lot of fun and I really enjoy helping people out. One thing you have to have for this job is a very thick skin. Heck you should have seen what I had to go through with the "6" problems last year. Most of the time I don't have to worry about the trolls I can come in and post and leave and simply forget about it. But there have been times that I will get people who no matter what I say want to pick a fight simply because I work for Intel.

As far as this warranty I am trying to track down who is running it already. As far as where the idea came from... there is a chance that it came from a person on this board.

If you can arrange a Q&A, maybe contact Anand and have it posted to the main page, could be really useful for Intel customers. I'm buying an Ivy Bridge CPU when they are released so I am a bit curious about the program and it's intentions.

C'mon we weren't born yesterday. You are the social media rep for enthusiasts and you allude to someone here suggesting this very program, but you didn't see this coming? Now you have to "track down" who is running it? Turn left to "Chuck" in the cubby next to you and quit with the drama. ;)

Oh and tell "Larry" in the the cubby across the way to hurry up on the 2550k and it better be less $$$ than the 2500k :p
