I spent months pondering this desicion, and I've never regretted it. Granted I might have gotten slightly more "bang for my buck" going with an AMD system; but I already had an Intel system (Dell) at the time, and never had a problem with it exept for the monior. I can't blame Intel for that.
Anyway, I decided to upgrade and build a system from scratch (see rig for details). It took some software and firmware updates, but as of now, I couldn't be happier. For God's sake, use WinXPpro. It's so much more stable than Win98. And new drivers are being released all the time, improving performance. And the machine is rock solid. In the past 3 months (I keep my system on pretty much 24/7), I think I've only "had" to reboot a couple times.
I'll sacrifice a "little" performance for stability anyday. And how, with the "new" P-4's, that's not even a sacrifice.
"You get what you pay for". 😉
