Intel is giving 128mb of PC800 Rambus FREE with every pentium 4

I just read this over at iamnotageek.com hehe you WILL have rambus wether you like it or not. "Intel has apparently gone crazy!!They are going to give a stick of 128mb of pc800 RAMBUS with every pentium 4 retail box bought."

Well, the P4 @ 1125.00ea should include at least 256MB of SCAMBUS. 😛

Overpriced sh*t I tell ya !

They're just forcing you to buy 128MB of Rambus. Even if you'd planned to buy P4 with a stick of 256MB Rambus you'd be stuck with a stupid 128MB stick.

They could've just lowered the price of the P4 more to offset the memory, but they didn't, so they're stupid.

and then they tell you its "free" just for buying one of their crappy processors. but since its "free" if it doesn't work they don't have to support it. and since scambus doesn't work intel doesn't have to support it or something d@mn i hate rambus.

<< They could've just lowered the price of the P4 more to offset the memory, but they didn't, so they're stupid. >>

The last prices I have heard Intel quote were $695 for the 1.4GHz and $795 for the 1.5. If that's where they start out at as Intel says, then that is a pretty decent price, comparatively.
I'd not heard of any RAMBUST giveaway till this, rather just the $70 rebate on systems using RAMBUST.

<<I'd not heard of any RAMBUST giveaway till this, rather just the $70 rebate on systems using RAMBUST. >>

There was a giveaway, joint venture by Intel and MicroStar to recall all the i820 boards with MTH, and replace them with i820 and RDRAM free of charge. How generous of MicroStar, I want to see Asus do that.

less you forget.. the only platform that currently supports RAMBUS is i850.. which as everyone knows is a DUAL CHANNEL systam, hence you would still need another 128MB stick in order for it to actually work:|

When they first mentioned it, and I haven't read a change to it yet, it was only 64MB being given away. Two 32MB sticks to work with the dual channel.

And 800 dollars doesn't sound like too great a price when you consider a 500 dollar TBird 1.2GHz runs about on par with it (and the extra 300 can get you 3 sticks of 256MB PC133 from what I've read in other posts about memory prices this week).

<< Like getting a lump of dog sh!t with a dead fish. >>

I like it Windogg. I like it alot. 😀

<< hehe you WILL have rambus wether you like it or not. >>

Yeah that or I just won't buy a P4, I see no good reason to waste my money on a P4. When a TBird 850 will run me just fine for about 1/10th of the price. I dunno about you guys, but I'm finding intel very frustrating these days... :|

Comparing prices for OEM AMD CPUs vs. Retail Intel prices seems to be the norm around here. That's hardly a valid comparison ...

LXi: MSI was not the initiator of that recall, nor were they the only participant. Intel picked up the tab for all of the 820's and the RAMBUST. Any company that made an 820 mobo was in on it.

You have to admit, Intel really is a great company.

Not only are they giving away the RAM with the P4, but I also heard they're giving away the FPU, AND L1 and L2 cache with the chip!

I can't wait to get one!

PS I've also heard a remarkable rumor that they're considering throwing in the brach prediction code as well.

Hmm, if Intel would give me a cooling system, motherboard, case w. proper PSU and 512Mb RDRAM with their P4 and all that for less than 500$, then I might actually consider buying one...

My memory coincides with Midnight Rambler, that is, that Intel
"offered" to "eat it" for ALL of the
i-820 boards with the MTH (memory translator hub)/SDRAM combos. If I remember correctly they offered to replace ANY of the boards just mentioned with another i-820 board (boards WITHOUT the MTH and WITH "X" amount of RDRAM).
I think I also recall that some people had to contact Intel THEMSELVES and that there was a rather short "time limit" on that offer. For some people this involved a lot of time and money spent contacting INTEL or going to the "area" on Intel's web site (which I recall could be a pain to access) in order to get "justice". I suspect there are SOME people who NEVER got their replacement boards and RDRAM.
It was reported that "caminogate" DID cost Intel millions of dollars. And, as obvious from this forum, they lost a lot of "respect" along the way.

Intel's "strategy" of crapping on its customers because of its inability to "compete" with a company (AMD) that gained momentum and toppled it (technologically) is NO WAY for a decent company to do business.

HULK: LMAO on your post. I "predict" 😉 that Intel will even offer a cheap heatsink/fan combo if you purchase their RETAIL-BOXED CPU's. 😀

well intel has to sell rdram with p4 because of their contract but this way they can make sdram/ddrram chipsets for p4 and rambus cant complain about it since their still selling the sh1t

Yea Dark, the "word" seems to be that Intel is only initially supporting RDRAM with the Willamette (P4) because of their CONTRACTUAL obligation to RAMBUS, Inc. and that even INTEL
plans on dumping RDRAM next year for DDR SDRAM support. WOW, you mean INTEL has FINALLY
figured out almost NO ONE wants RDRAM? SMMMMAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTT (sarcastic 😉 )
