I don't know if this is the right area to ask this question since it deals with chipset and storage. Sorry if it is a noob question. My main question is this. From Intel's website, the ICH10R controller is included on the X58 chipset and has six (6) SATA ports.

I was wondering if anybody can confirm:

1) Each of the ports support 3 gb/s
2) Intel is not using a port multiplier to obtain the six (6) SATA connections. For example, there might only be 3 real ports and Intel is using a port multiplier on each to obtain a total of 6.

All 6 will do the normal 300 Mbp/s (more like 250-270 in real world benching); there is no "port multiplying" going on.

I believe the intel controller only provides 4 SATA connections and the other 2 are tied to an external controller!
