It is most probably going to be the final Gulftown processor and definitely the best one to get!

I'm glad I waited and didn't buy the 980X in haste!

And I really do not understand how Intel can sell a $999 CPU that is clocked only 1 bin higher than the previous $999 CPU. And they are both unlocked anyways!

Well it can do heavily threaded applications faster. But core for core and clock for clock i think SB would still win... BUT that isn't fair to the 990x seeing as it is a hex-core CPU meant for heavily threaded work loads. Where the i7-2600k is meant for a different niche.

Of course at 3x the price - one still has to decide if it's worth it..
The 980x is still going to run hotter and draw more power ..

mmmm the 990 is slightly better then the 980.
However double the price?? possibly not, your best finding a 980X and praying its one of the nicer ones.
