Intel i7-7700K $ 299.99 - Mircocenter

Nope.. this is a regular for microcenter. they've been doing this for the last 10 years. always @$50 cheaper then Newegg. They seem to do it with high volume processors.

That's basically what I meant. 'Crazy' as in so much lower than e-tailers as they have often done. They also do it on lower volume CPUs (like the i7-7800 hexacore).

Yard Back in the day we only a Micro center across the river in Virginia but when the CompUSA a mile away from me closed up Micro Center moved right in. Super convenient and love browsing in there. They don't seem to be trying to expand all over the country like CompUSA did. Might be why they're still around and appear to be thriving?

And yes thats a hell of a deal if I needed a new PC I would jump on that.

Yeah, MC only builds store in large metro-centers, IIRC. That's probably how they are able to thrive where CompUSA failed. The bonus was CompUSA was only 20 minutes away, whereas MC is an hour away for me. Haven't been there in a while, but I'm looking at building a new PC, so I've been watching their site.

Rockville!?.. is that you?!

The time i most often see special deals on cpu (special beyond their always special) is black friday period when the discount is even greater. One of these years i'll need to replace my sandbridge server mb...

Does the new i5-8600 make sense instead if you're buying a new MB? Similar performance with an upgrade path into coffee lake.

Not sure how a single core of the i5-8600 compares to i7-7700k; probably a bit slower. Does this matter ? In reality probably not; I gamed on an sandy bridge i5 for 7 years and it never bothered me but the purist might note that he can get 1/10 of an extra frame out of his favorite fps. I will note that if you use a bubble sort on 10 million entries you might prefer the i7; but you could avoid that by using the quick sort which will take less than a minute on a pentinum.

I'm looking at a pretty specific use case (sim running Project cars 2) that seems fairly GPU bound, so I'm thinking either will be ok. I think I found an interesting deal locally with a 7700k ($250) and a1080ti. ($550) both nib.

Buy them, those are great prices for NIB!

Keep an eye on Frys one day sales. I picked one up for $279 last week, free shipping AND they paid the sales tax! Great deal but only one day.

Watch pcpartspicker. They cover many retailers pretty well. I just got a deal on a PSU during a 5 day Newegg special the site picked up.
