Intel i5 4460 in Asus h81md plus...will this work?

H81MD is an older 8 series chip set, will it boot at all? Is it possible to bios update without booting?

You need a recognised CPU (Haswell, not Haswell Refresh) to update the BIOS/UEFI if the current BIOS version does not recognise a Haswell Refresh CPU.
