ATI could do this starting with their HD2000-series PCI-E cards, by bundling a special DVI-to-HDMI dongle. Supposedly modern NV cards can too.

My question is, can modern Intel IGPs do this as well? Does anyone know?

I picked up two of those Newegg $80 G3258 OCing combos, but the cheaper H81 board bundled only has VGA and DVI. If I could use one of the AMD dongles, or a DVI-to-HDMI cable, that supposedly carries audio when used with NV cards, that I also picked up, it would be great.

DVI supports audio with every ASRock mb I know of.

So I guess it's possible. I'll just have to try it.

Edit: I got my G3258 / GA-H81M-DS2V combo assembled and Windows 7 64-bit installed.
Playing around with some overclocking, but I was indeed able to get the DVI port on this board to output HDMI audio, and my 24" Westinghouse HDTV recognizes it as an HDMI connection on the OSD. Great!

Instead of a motherboard without HDMI and a DVI-HDMI adapter, why not buy a motherboard with HDMI in the first place? The price difference is minimal (if any).

Actually, since this was a Newegg special combo deal, the price difference for a different mobo would have been rather substantial. The cost of the mobo in this deal was around $10.

For $10 I'll buy a 1150 motherboard too, even if it does not have HDMI.
