Intel HD Graphics and Minecraft

Will Intel HD Graphics (the 10EU version found on the Celeron G1820) run Minecraft smoothly at 1920x1080?

If not, what would be the minimum dGPU that will get a system powered by a G1820 running Minecraft smoothly at that resolution?

Thanks.

any cheap dgpu will play minecraft maxed out r7 240 or gt730.

I used to play it on an ATI Mobility Radeon 3470- I suspect modern integrated graphics would run it just fine.

The GPU is fine. I would recommend an overclocked G3258 though. Otherwise it will bog down after mod packs are installed. And you have to avoid any mods that use shaders. It is possible to mod up minecraft so that it requires a GTX960 to run smoothly, but imo you dont get much from shader mods.

Oh, and make sure you use dual channel RAM! The extra bandwidth makes a big difference when using the IGP.

It definitely possible, but for a high and smooth frame-rate you'll probably need to install the Optifine mod.

Also, follow this guide - http://minemum.com/performance-settings

With the Optifine mod I've played Minecraft @ 30-40 FPS @ 720p (low settings) with Z3735F, which has only 4 EUs based off of Gen7 architecture. Yours is Gen8 with double the EUs and faster clocks speeds, and a whole lot less throttling.

OK, so this game is super not graphics intensive. Awesome 🙂

Interestingly, when I was at the Microsoft Store, they had Minecraft running on that cheap blue HP laptop with the dual core Bay Trail-M. It didn't run great, but it was playable. I figure if something so weak can passably play the game, a Celeron G1820 should handle it well.

Correct.
I bet this is the one you saw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-xgNlp-L7A
He is running Minecraft in his review @ 1366x768.

I've seen Minecraft run quite well on several laptops/tablets recently with Intel iGPUs. My own laptop with an Intel 2328m runs it great. It also runs original Source engine games superbly. It needs a slight graphic reduction to play Kerbal Space Program at decent frame rates, but it works for when I'm travelling.
