Intel HD 4600 vs Radeon HD 4350

I bought a new PC with an i5 4440 that contains the Intel HD 4600 graphics with up to 1gb of ram. The old PC contains a Radeon HD 4350 with 512mb of ram.

I play games, but nothing new, currently playing Star Wars Republic Commando from the Humble Bundle, Hearthstone and I am trying to learn League of Legends all of which run fine on the old PC.

Which graphics should I go with on the new PC?

The HD 4600, definitely. It will be significantly faster than the old ATi card, and supports modern features like DirectX 11 and hardware acceleration video playback.

However I would recommend getting some more RAM for your PC. You want at least 4GB, preferably 8GB if you can afford it (and make sure you get a dual-channel kit, i.e. 2 x 2GB sticks).

Yeah definitely use the inbuilt hd4600 and dump the 4350.

Ahh, I misunderstood your original post. The "up to 1GB" was talking about memory allocated to the HD4600, not total system memory

I agree with using the HD 4600, but with such a nice CPU, you might want to add a low power dgpu like a HD7750 or GT 740/750/750Ti. Are you running at 1080p?

Yes my monitor is 1080p. I was thinking of grabbing a GT730 in a few months.

I would wait for the new AMD 3xx series GPUs and then decide.

But even if you had to buy a dGPU today i would recommend the R7 250 (128bit GDDR5) over the GT730(64bit GDDR5).

Just make sure if you get a low end card that it is GDDR5. These super low end cards are really not a very good value though, especially at 1080p.

You would do better to move up to a GT750 at least. That card is only 25 dollars or so more than the 730, and probably well more than 50% faster. It should also be faster than the R7 250. The GT750 (or even 750Ti but it is quite a bit more expensive) should run on an OEM power supply also.

As everyone else has said, the intel 4600 is much better, but those 4350 cards are really good HTPC cards if you ever plan on building an HTPC out of an older, leftover system. So hang onto it for that or give it to someone with an HTPC.

Use HD4600 for now. If you are going to upgrade to a budget gaming card, skip the GT730. Today the best budget gaming cards are GTX750Ti/R7 265 and especially for price/performance R9 270/270X. Alternatively, you could look in the used card market and grab an HD7950 or 7970 as those can often be purchased for $90-120 and are miles faster than new $100 cards.
