Intel hd 3000 graphics better than my 8800gts?

I vid card is ancient and I am looking to upgrade. Will the intel on chip graphics be comparable to my vid card at all? The only game that I play is starcraft 2 which is cpu intensive from what I have read. I'll be upgrading to a 2500k from my current core 2 duo 6600 2.4ghz. If the onboard graphics can run the game without stutters then I am going to pass on a vid card upgrade. I don't have to play on ultra or anything like that

Even if the performance was equal, why make yourself suffer with Intels non-drivers? While Intel is throwing performance at the problem, and has done little to really improve their drivers.

Yes it will run... At 1024x768 on lowest settings.

If you have a 1080P display, you are going to need a discrete card. Even a lowly HD5570 handily beats an HD3000.

Ok I think that answers my question. I guess I will keep my card and try and run with that. As long as the cpu upgrade takes care of the stutters then I don't have a problem. I play on low settings anyways as it is easier to see everything that is going on.

Not even close. The 8800GTS is around 3x faster and Intel's IGP drivers are horsecrap, so keep your card.

On speed, the 8800GTS wins
On imagine quality, the 8800GTS wins
On drivers... Id imagine the 8800GTS wins

Basically no reason not to use the 8800 that you have.

I ran Starcraft 2 on my E6600 and 9800GT at 1600x1200 on Med - High.

Your more CPU bound in that game but definitely keep your discrete graphics card.

Not enterily realted to the OP's question, but I would be curious to see how Llano and Trinity would compare to some of the decent cards of yester-year. Nothing high end, but a good midrange part, an 8600GT, a 2600XT, etc.

Ive used my built in HD 3000 and all I can say is that as a graphics card if fails compared to a discreet card. The only good part about it, is that it IS fast enough to run games on low settings and at 1080p [20-30 fps though in most games, 0aa or AF]. If your discreet card dies you can use the HD as a backup in the meantime...Kudos to Intel for releasing something that can handle something like Skyrim or Deus Ex HR on low settings.
