Intel gets SLI license?

SLI was almost a done deal even for 975X, I've heard. It wouldn't be a surprise if NV license SLI for X38. But the question changes at this point of time: Will SLI work on existing Intel chipsets?

If I had to guess, not likely. NV will have another chance to market SLI as SLI 2 (sell more boards and cards), and Intel will do everything possible to push DDR3 (preempt any potential danger from AMD) so SLI, correction, SLI 2 will probably be exclusive to X38 and new NV chipset.

don't see why not - it's the gfx driver that's important as a PCI-E slot is a PCI-E slot is a PCI-E slot.
Both Crossfire & SLI work on 975X with appropriate drivers & of course ULi had a chipset that did both (before nVidia bought them & it disapeared ...).

I was able to play with SLI on the X38, however the latest drivers from NVIDIA were changed once again so that capability has disappeared. Our understanding now is that SLI will not be officially supported on the X38 by NVIDIA, seems as though the two companies are having a bit of a disagreement once again. ;)

Ooooh, thank you Gary!

This basically confirms exactly what I thought (which is pretty obvious). There really is no magic to SLI except the Video driver detecting the chipset and turning SLI on or off based on it's ID.

To much emphasis is placed on SLI and Crossfire, and not enough on just bringing out QUALITY drivers and making them work FANTASTIC with just single video cards.

All of these companies need to start getting back to basics and improve quality FIRST in the single card/driver department, then move from there. In all the years of Nvidia, their worst years with drivers have been since the introduction of SLI. Before SLI Nvidia had a higher standard with drivers.
