Intel G35 vs G33

I need a motherboard to support 8Gb of RAM and a Q9450, or preferably a Xeon X3350 since they're practically identical however I'd suspect the Xeon is a more validated product and the price is very similar.

I dont game so 3D graphics isn't a priority, onboard video and sound is preferable. I'd like a basic motherboard that is stable and you dont need to load much crapware from its driver CDs. I'd prefer an Intel board because I have plenty of experience with their reliability and stability in enterprise environments.

The problem? Only Asus has a G35 board. The G35 seems to have a better onboard video compared to the GMA3100 stuff in the G33 chipsets. Intel only has G33 boards. I only need a basic board with 1 or 2 PCIe slots and 4 ram slots.

Does anyone know if Intel is due to release a G35 board in the near future? Whats the power consumption difference between the G33 and G35 chipsets?

Cheers

The two chipsets are pretty much the same, except the G35 has marginally better video. At least, I think so.

I don't believe any other manufacturer will come out with G35 at this point in time, because G45 is right around the corner.

Sounds good. I read Q2, 2008 for the G45 chipset so thats from now till middle of the year. Anyone know more specific details?

Cheers

Actually, it looks like Intel is about to release their own G35 product, DG35EC: http://www.intel.com/products/...board/DG35EC/index.htm

-Micro ATX
-Supports Core 2 Duo and Quad processors including the 45nm Penryn
-Up to 8GB DDR2-800
-Intel GMA X3500 IGP
-DVI and VGA port for dual display

The DX10 15.9 drivers are slated to release end of this months so I guess that's why its coming out now. G45 boards will be not too far from the G35 board's release though.

About G45:
-65nm chipset(G965/G35=90nm)
-Faster IGP, aka GMA X4500
-Full HD video hardware accleration support(only G45)
-1333MHz FSB
-Up to DDR2-800 and DDR3-1333 support

I hear that G45 will be delayed yet again. (just like G35 had been delayed many times) I wonder how Intel can be so confident with Larrabee when they can't even get the simple (well, relatively) HD playback?

I have the ASUS P5E-VM mATX board and its solid, has G35 chipset. Many features but you're limited to one PCI-E x 16, 2 PCI-E x 1, and one PCI slot. I'm OC'ing a Q6600 and outside of the vdrop / vdroop I have no complaints whatsoever.

I didn't touch the ASUS driver CD, so I didn't end up with stuff I didn't want. I downloaded any needed drivers, including the latest G35 driver, straight from websites. 4 DIMMS, up to 8gb total.
