HI,

I just bought an Intel G2 80 GB and put it into my laptop (Lenovo X200) core duo 2.66 mhz. I installed Win7 Ultimate

I ran some HD tune benchmarks and i am getting disappointing results. I ran it 4-5 times.

the CPU is very high and i never get over 200 MB/s where in other benchmarks i see upwards of 235 Mb/s and an average of over 200.

any ideas whats going on?

Thanks

You may have some other background apps accessing the harddrive.

You're comparing your drive in a used/filled state thats being benchmarked on an older laptop with speedstep probably enabled as your main OS drive with your normal stuff probably already installed, virus scan, firewall, etc.... TO a tweaked brand new cutting edge Core i7 testbench PC (installed and tested by a "pro") that probably doesn't have any non-essential software on it. In fact some drives are bare (empty) drives with no OS installed on them.

So your Core 2 Duo @ 1.6Ghz (probably at lowest speed step speed) with ICH8, OS and apps installed & running ?

vs. Core i7 probably at 3.0+Ghz (in turbo mode) with ICH10, possibly empty, unused state.

See the problem here?

There may be some other problems too.

One thing you can try... is to make sure you're plugged in (not in battery low power mode), change profile from Power Scheme from Laptop to Desktop/always on. That one change might increase your performance like 10%.

Seems fine to me.

I'd also say forget about largely useless benchmarks like HDTune...i'd rather see CrystalDiskMark numbers (also useless, i know, but at least it shows smaller writes/reads performance).

Thanks for the quick reply. the 13.5% CPU used is probably an indicator i guess also. i tried shutting all the services down and have no antivirus installed. But yea your right. my OS ran on the drive so swap file was all on there. Thanks again for the suggestions!

n7: i did run crystal and the file benchmarks and they we lack luster also. about 30% off. just bothers me i can never get those results as Anandtech or other reviewers.... :) I ran the file benchmark on the 2mb. there is a weird dip at 4096....
