Intel G2 160 gb vs Crucial M4 256gb

So I used to have a 250 gb Vertex 2 and I remember games loaded noticeably faster than on this Intel G2. The G2 has given me no trouble for the past couple of years but this recent spurt of M4 sales is getting really tempting, since I do have a SATA3 mobo.

Has anyone used both of these two drives? If so, can you tell me how much of a real world difference you see doing what? I don't care about benchmarking or anything like that. I just want to know if I upgrade my SSD, will I see a difference or am I wasting my money.

Only upgrade if you need the space.
The G2 is a very good drive only weak on writes.

^^^ Speaks the truth ^^^

I have owned both and only upgraded to the 256GB M4 BECAUSE I needed the space. Otherwise, I would have kept my G2. Stable and reliable drive.

IMO m4 is the vfm drive at the moment unless you need absolute performance where 830 leads. Waiting for 480+ gb drives to come within $300ish. Will probably happen in late 2013

Thanks, all!

Burner: So you didn't notice ANY real difference in real world performance then?

I agree to whats been said in this thread already. If you need more space, sure. The m4 is faster but you won't see it outside benchmarks.

Or if you fix/format/repair friends or family PCs as a side job, you can do what I did and buy yourself an m4/830 and put the G2 into "stock". It didn't take very long for my next PC job to come around and when the inevitable question of "how do I make it go faster" came up, I sold them my G2.

Or you could just sell it anyway.

It was someone from work who doesnt do very much with her computer at all and I hardly put much wear on the thing anyway. Intel SSD toolbox reported 100% life remaining. SSD wear is such an overconcerned subject.

But yes I did, called business :p

Temjingold and I were talking about this over in hotdeals earlier. I am very excited because my upgrade from an x25m g2 80gb to 2 x 256gb m4's in RAID 0 feels almost like my first upgrade to the x25m g2 that I made back in 2009. I absolutely did not expect this, I just wanted more ssd space, and I have been quite pleasantly surprised.
