Hmm, but doesn't the Intel system use RAM thats clocked 70% higher?
Also, two of the benchmarks--UT2K4 and Quake4--are benchmarks Intel tends to win regardless, even when comparing an AMD and Intel processor with wide apparent clockspeed differential.
I'd like to see a wide range of tests on other games to see if the Conroe really has an advantage or if its just the "Pentium select" titles again.
As for Office productivity, yes, AMD will never challenge Intel, even before Conroe. Part of it is design philosophy (focus on FP-centric designs) and part of it is optimization--office programs optimized for Pentium chipsets.
Knowing this, *I* and many others mainly bought AMD for gaming. If Conroe can challenege AMD on a full gaming gamut, then it has a true advantage. Half Life 2 might be the only legit benchmark on that test, as we all know how RAM dependant Fear is and how fast framerates can double on that one ancillary part alone.
