Intel Extreme Graphics 2

I just got a new Dell Dimension 3000 with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 at work where I do alot of Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw work. Would I get a good boost to performance if I stuck a 64 mb PCI card in there over the integrated graphics chip.

You are doing 2d animation if i read that correctly,which doesn't take much horsepower at all. How much RAM does the PC have. If less than 512 switching will free up some RAM but neither solution will really have an advantage over the other.

Its not animation , just drawings and layouts. I have a 2.8 P4 and 512 megs of ram in the box. I am not sure if the integrated graphics has 32 or 64 megs to it. I was looking at PCI vid cards and they are quite cheap, however I know nothing about low end vid cards any suggestions for a 64 or a 128 meg card?? They are so cheap I figure i might as well get one. It can't hurt performance of the integrated....right??

Well I would get a card in there just to improve image quality. As these guys have said, it'll also free up the RAM being used for your graphics card. Other than that, it's perfectly fine.

you should get more memory (find another 512 stick on sale for 40 bucks) rather than get a vid card if all you do is drawing and 2d things. its your monitor that really makes the images bad or good.

no u wont get any improvement if your only into 2D animation...just increase your Ram though
