Intel EIST on Dimension 8400

Is there something special that I should be doing to enable EIST on a P4 630? We have a Dimension 8400 at work, and it always reports as running @ 2.99GHz. Thanks.

EIST on the 630, unfortunately, will only clock down to 2.8. So it is really a waste of your time to bother with it.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't see an option in the BIOS.

Pabster, is there a site that lists what each P4 6xx clocks down to w/ EIST (just out of curiosity)?

There might be, try doing a Google query.

The basics are that EIST is a modified SpeedStep. The lowest frequency it will clock down to is 2.8, so in the case of the 630 (a 3.0 chip), you won't see much of a difference. Only on the 660 or above, IMHO, would it be of any real value.

Now that I know that it only clocks down to 2.8GHz, I agree that it won't be of any real value. I just wish that we weren't under contract with Dell.
