I used to be really into overclocking but got out of it for about a year. But I remember most of it.. Here's the problem I am having, I am coming from a E6300 to a E7200. I don't have any idea on how to go about overclocking this one because it seems far different. I have tried posting it at 400mhz but it won't budge. I am thinking it might be my board because it stops at DET DRAM on my little poster screen. I have the Asus Rampage Formula X48 motherboard. Any suggestions on what to set the stuff to on this board so I can run at 400x9.5? (My E6300 got to 3.4 on air, stable...) I'm very confused. I have 4x1GB of Crucial Tracer Ballistix DDR2 800 ram. (Usually run it at 800 or 1000 with timings at 4-4-4-14 or 5-5-5-16)

Going by what you have, Asus rampage, E7200, Crucial Tracer Ballistix, all are a nice combo. Your E6300 was a multi of 7, E7200 has a multi of 9.5 and each have a 1066 Fsb. So with that being said, Going by what you so far tried, I think you need a voltage bump.........but first lets slow down and get there gradually.

I have an E7200 and I got it up to 3.6 without to much difficulty, but backed it down to 3.4 as I like the voltage settings better at that level. Set you ram timings to default settings and a ratio of 1:1, start by bumping up the fsb to a moderate level like 300 <--- (this setting really depends on how well you chip will respond to a voltage drop ) and as for voltage setting, leave it @ its default vid, save and reboot. Try this and if you get it into windows properly, use Prime or OCCT ( as examples ) to test your system. If it doesn't boot into windows, get back into bios and bump up the vcore a notch as your chip may need a little more juice, and repeat if necessary. Just remember, this is the basics of basics. You should read the "HOW TO" post by "greysky" at the top of this forum to get a better understanding. Getting to 3.6 will all depend on voltages and heat. What HS are you using? Keep posting your results. :)

Drsignguy is right, you should check out that 'how to' post, it contains some very useful info.

I'm running an E7200 @ 3.8 myself, took a bit of tweaking, but not too much.

Shot in the dark here, did you overlook the PCI-E frequency? I know I did, I'd memorised all the other settings but managed to forget about that. If your board has defaulted to stock settings when you dropped in the E7200, PCI-E frequency will be at 'Auto', needs setting manually to '100'.

I only say that because you don't appear to be a novice, given that you clocked your previous processor to 3.2.

Just a thought..
