Intel planned to offer its new Pentium Dual-core E6000 Series processor at the end of May, but E6300 has been already found selling in Japan.
Positioned between E5000 and E7000, E6300 adopts 45nm manufacturing process and works at 2.8GHz. Just as E7X00, E6300 features 1066MHz FSB, and is coming with 2MB L2 cache.
The model is priced at Yen8880 according to ASCII which is about US$90.

I am Confusled. Is there not a E6300 already at 1.86GHz? This hurts my brain. They could have called it like E7x50 or something instead.

Stupid overkill. Btw, it's not the same as the E7xxx, the E7xxx has 3MB L2 cache, it's the E5xxx that has 2MB L2. So it's basically an E5xxx (same cache), but with 1066 FSB instead of 800FSB. Whoopie. Just makes it slightly less convenient to overclock.

Except the chip itself isn't marked C2D or Pentium dual-core, is it? I'd hate to go to my parts drawer, find an E6300, and wonder whether or not it's 45nm.

It's marked as a Pentium dual-core processor. Look at the picture of the retail box: Intel Pentium Inisde Dual Core Desktop 45nm! And also the E5200, E5300, and E5400 are labeled as Pentiums.

So this is like an E5200 with a different FSB & Multi. Probably the same overclocking headroom (3.6-4.1ghz). Wonder preliminary OC's will show it being binned like E7xxx or E5xxx?

So are they going to come out with an E6400 @ 2.93GHz, and then release an E6420 with 4MB of cache? :p
I still have my E6400

Why does this remind me of NVIDIA rebranding their GPUs. I randomly got that idea when I read the OP.

This is the other way around. Rebranding would be multiple names for the same thing, where this is having the same name for multiple things.

This actually reminds me of when the geforce 9800/9600 came out, and all I could think of were the Radeon 9800/9600.

Since its in the 6xxx series, it will probably have Intel's Virtualization technology - that will be the main difference.
