Intel E2160 vs. AMD Opteron 1210

Which is the faster processor?

They're dead even at their stock frequency. (1.8GHz) Multimedia apps will push the E2160 on top but the Opteron will come out ahead in games and other stuff where L2 matters.

which one is better for server purposes (file server, backup, etc.)?

I would consider a motherboard's ethernet performance first then storage performance before choosing between E2160 and Opteron 165. The aforementioned parts will be the weakest links for a small server.
