Intel doesn't list anything above E8600.

E8600 is $270 at Newegg making it a tough buy when you can get a Core i5 750 for $160 at Micro Center (or $200 at Newegg) and $100 socket 1156 motherboards

you're talking about low-freq quads vs a v.high freq dual. intel knows some people are interested in single-threaded power, especially overclockers, and they know that the E8600 is a 5 GHz candidate while yorkfield/lynnfield doesn't have a chance in hell.

yes, accept that with a good board, a good Q9550 can also have very high frequency. Higher than an i5 probably, but lower than the E8600 just the same.
