intel dynamic acceleration? yes/no?

I just saw it as an option in the bios of a laptop (gs45 chipset). I looked it up, says it will boost the cpu clock frequency if one core is idle, so that single-threaded apps can run faster.

But it's available in the bios as an enable/disable option. So, what's the downside? The default on this laptop is "disabled". Is this just the typical performance versus heat output kind of deal?

It's like asking the question "Do you want a fast laptop, yes/no?" Of course yes. But I have the choice, which means there are pros & cons.

Digging deeper in google searching it seems the choice is because of older operating systems that don't support these features well? Like XP and earlier?

Yes, IDA was the precursor to turbo, same sort of thing. While normally it boosts while only one core is active due to a bug it can be activated on both cores at the same time.

Yes. It's like turbo on newer models, just to a far lesser extent. The difference isn't big enough to impact battery life at all, and there's the "hurry up, get idle" aspect of it.
