Hello new to these forums, this link popped up when i was looking for information on the 805.

I have just upgraded my Mobo and CPU i needed a cheep upgrade to last me to the end of the year. I don't see the point of spending big bucks on a system right now as its changing for both AMD and Intel in 6 months. My P4 3Ghz 478, P4C800 875p just could not take any more, so i thought i would do so research and jump back into overclocking again.

Need to use my AGP GFX card and RAM, PSU etc, so i went for a Intel 805 and Asus P5VD1-X. VIA Chipset :X

Big mistake made on the board. i know the board was cheep but its the worst board i have ever had by Asus. Could only get this CPU to 3.2 due to the fact the board does not come with CPU voltage adjustable. Even that its under the spec it does on the asus website, i emailed them and they said it them self, it don't. But its still there now on the spec lol. So that board got sent back.

More research done and i don't know how i missed this one. The P5P800 SE, this board cost me £50 nice and cheep. Looks like a reworked P4C800 Series board on the Intel 865PE Chipset.

Cut a long story short, Water cooled, Twinmos DDR500 RAM used @2.8 volts.
805 FSB @ 190 with Volts 1.5 on vcore. Running nice at 3.8 not bad for £140 :D
But had to drop it down to 3.7 as my PSU can't take it. Rails are up and down like yoyo's. But should be sorted soon 650watt psu on the way. Prime95 for a few hours no errors good enough for me not crashed out yet.

Im not sure to buy a 805. I know that the conroe are coming, but its also a question of money. ATM i use a Northwood 2.8@3.4 and like to play around with a new chip.
Its not a big step i think, or do you mean that it is senseless to buy a P5P800SE with a ceap D 805 for OC ?

Well its your choice i got fed up of waiting. Spending £140 now to keep me going to end of the year when i spend £700. I'm happy with the 805 OC, best CPU in ages for overclocking in my view. Not forgeting the O 144. :)
